Sound Advice

You will no doubt receive a great deal of advice during your piano shopping. After many years of working with students, teachers, and piano enthusiasts, we feel the best shopping advice we can give is that a piano needs to do three things for a student to be successful.

1. A piano needs to teach the student's ear to recognize pitch, so it needs to hold its tune very well.
   
   
2. A piano needs to teach the student's fingers the muscle-memory necessary to play with expression, so the keys need to be weighted and evenly balanced.
   
   
3. Finally, and most importantly, the piano needs to inspire the pianist to want to sit down and play it. This is very important and often overlooked. Be practical, but get a piano you can be proud of and one that you are excited about playing. You are probably going to own it for a very long time.
